Finding “just the right thing” for an upcoming trip can be exhausting. Here is my Short List of “go to” spots for just what I need. I think you will find it very helpful as well.
Magellan’s Travel Supplies- www.magellans.com
This web site is my favorite, and is chock full of all kinds of helpful tools and gadgets. My prized purchases of late have been the following items, but do explore the site, and see for yourself. You will find all kinds of things you did not even know that you needed!!
–Foot Rest– This lays flat and you blow it up once you are on the plane. I actually use it in my office as well. It elevates my feel about 3-4” and that is just enough to take the pressure off my back. Invaluable tool for me.
–Dual Voltage Appliances– I have purchased a number of items and find this so helpful when traveling. If you repeat to specific locations this might be worth looking at for curling irons, hair dryers, shavers and the like.
–Eye Shades- These are special because they have formed the neoprene to accommodate the eyes so even my long lashes do not brush against the inside fabric. Very comfortable for a quick rest, or long nap.
–RFID Protection Wallets and Bags– This is becoming a real issue nowadays. You want to look for carry cases that offer RFID protection. This includes covers for: Passport, Credit Cards, Drivers Licenses, and anything with a card swipe capability. I use the small portable wallet, and have put my Coach billfold in the closet. They also have a good selection of cross-body purses with “slash proof” straps. Pick-pocketing has become quite a business, and many of the places we travel to have high unemployment, which only further exacerbates the temptation for people to become a thief. So out smart them and protect yourself!
TravelSmith- Clothing, Gear and Luggage www.travelsmith.com
This was really the first “travel gear” web site and catalog that I recall purchasing from. And they have remained current, offering many useful items to make a trip easier and more fun. This includes: travel clothes, luggage, travel accessories and even has a Sale & Clearance section.
-Compression Socks- This is an important travel accessory to have if taking a long flight. They usually look like pathetic hospital sox, and everyone wants to shy away. But no more the case with these sox. Leave it to the Italians, with such great style…. They are rocking some colorful Argyle sox that are just plain sexy! A pair is $30 and so worth the investment if taking a flight of more than 4 hours. That’s my rule.
Scottevest Clothing For Travel- www.scottevest.com
This is an incredibly ingenious company, and all the products are made with the highest quality of buttons, pockets, claps, and zippers. They have jackets, pants, vests and all kinds of travel clothing for men and women. They tend to run very small so bare that in mind when you order. My favorite is the the Travel Vest. I prefer the lightweight version but there is a heavier one as well. It has 17 pockets. No joke. It is made to hold the all your gadgets and gear, including: smart phone, music gadget with hooks for the ear pods around the back, zippered compartments for passport, money, an inside pocket for your tablet. This can reduce the weight for check in at airports, and you have everything compactly in one place and ON you. http://www.scottevest.com/v3_store/Travel_Vest_Women.shtml
Rooten’s Luggage Center– Irvine, CA.
This is a family run local travel and luggage store is located in Irvine, CA—right near John Wayne Airport. They always have a great selection of items, and they also hold a Packing Seminar once a month that is fantastic! They show you how to fold three weeks of clothes in no time flat, and by using just a few packs you can do it at home and end up on a trip with no wrinkles, and an organized suitcase for the entire adventure. From gadgets, to clothing, to luggage they really do have it all and you can lift and touch all the items to see what works best for you.
