Well, we can all admit that Mother’s Day is just not going to be the typical traditions and celebrations we have known. It will probably be a much more low-key and smaller affair, as it will be at my house too.   But that does not mean it cannot be fun! So here are a few ideas of how to make it special, and rather easy to make it happen.

  • Breakfast In Bed- Now, what Mom does not like to be served a tray in bed with her favorite coffee, tea, juice or even champagne? (no judging) And breakfast treats are an added bonus. Easy to do. Someone just needs to go the market and gather the items a day ahead. Dad that means you!
  • Family Yard Games- Corn-hole or similar lawn or board games can be fun for the family while enjoying lunch or an early dinner together.
  • Rent A Boat And Cruise The Newport Harbor- There are two companies that I know are open right now, as of this writing (5/5/20). They are both located on Balboa Island and you could enjoy this with a small family gathering, or even present the gift and book it over the next few weeks.

Dining– There are a ton of great Brunch and Dinner options to enjoy. Each dinner includes four tapas: canelón de pollo ahumado (smocked chicken cannelloni, foie gras sauce, everything spice, sherry reduction), ensalada de mariscos (chilled seafood salad, salted cod, octopus, shrimp, Spanish olive oil), sopa de langosta (lobster bisque, tarragon oil) and queso (burrata, roasted leeks, toasted hazelnuts). Dessert is a choice of Mama Santana flan or tarta de queso (Spanish cheesecake, blueberries, candied lemon).

The Capital Grille

-A three-course, prix fixe dinner as well as other choices from a special Mother’s Day weekend take-out menu are available.

-The dinner includes freshly baked breads, spring salad, entrée choices of whole roasted tenderloin of beef with butter-poached lobster tails or jumbo shrimp scampi-style.  Accompaniments are Sam’s mashed potatoes and fresh green beans.  For dessert, flourless chocolate espresso cake with a special treat for Mom of house-made lemon tea cookies.

-Butcher Shoppe Steaks, cut daily, may be ordered for cooking at home with sides packaged family-style.
