Pearched under a canopy of trees are two huge Bocce Ball courts at Il Fornaio in Irvine. This is a secret find, and I hesitate to even share it. Really! The waiters paraded out with chairs and tables and my favorite sound of wine corks started to unplug. Our guests arrive and the appetizers were delivered. Flatbreads, salad, pizza, it was all there in easy to grab bites. We were in business. We had so much fun playing rounds of the game in two teams of four. Not too strenuous, and very competitive. It is like gambling… with each roll you think you are that much better than the last time and BOUND to win. We then slipped inside and enjoyed a dinner on the patio. I enjoyed the Pasta with Vodka sauce and everyone seemed to order a pasta dish. I very much like how they offer on the menu both a small portion and a larger portion. This works great for me! The wine list was quite reasonable. We ordered a Provedence Cab and it was $45. I saw that in Albertson’s just today on sale for $35 and that is not much less than what we paid at the restaurant. Il Fornaio (949) 261-1444. Do make reservations, or resolve to see if it is available when you arrive. They are very accommodating.
