Overview of the Upcoming Event- The First Annual Newport Beach Wine and Food Festival is only two weeks away! The festivities will begin Friday evening (6:30-11:00pm) September 19th, with a VIP launch party at Red O, hosted by Master Chef Rick Bayless. This event will feature local chefs and the proceeds from the live and silent auctions will benefit three Festival Charity partners, including: Project Hope Alliance, Hoag Hospital Foundation and Circle 1000 (a Hoag Family Cancer Institute).

This will be followed Saturday and Sunday (from 11am to 5pm) with two days chalk full with over the top wine and cuisine events at the Newport Beach Civic Center grounds. There will be: live cooking demos with celebrity chefs, a Grand Tasting Pavilion with cuisine from many of OC’s best restaurants. And from the wine perspective, there will be over 40 wineries, Sommelier panels, mixology courses and live jazz music to set the mood for wonderful time. Daytime tickets grant guests the access to ALL programming each day. Not a penny more upon entering the Newport Beach Civic Center grounds.  The Festival will close with the Grand Finale Party Sunday evening (6:00-9:00pm) under the stars at Café Jardin hosted by Chef Pascal Olhats and Sherman Library & Gardens. The Festival “Honorary Chef Award” will also be presented on Sunday evening. There will be guest chefs, including:  Jamie Gwen, host of “Food & Wine with Jamie Gwen” on KFWB on Sundays at noontime, Food Network’s Chopped winner Joe Youkhan, and others. Our “Master of Ceremonies” will be Peter Dills from “Dining with Dills”. Peter will be our esteemed Emcee for all the Festival Shenanigans on both Saturday and Sunday. Recently Peter moved his radio show to 830AM KLAA – Angels Radio. You
can listen to Peter Sundays at 5:00pm on 830AM Angels Radio, or watch it streaming live on www.PeterDills.com, or on your cell phone with the free app: ESPN Radio. (The radio show follows the Angels game so there are times when it starts earlier or slightly later.)

Catching A Sneak Peek Ahead of the Event- And for those of us, such as myself, who were lucky enough to be at this pre-event, we were indeed lucky!  We had the opportunity to sample many of the items we will all be experiencing later in September. What a fine affair it was in mid-August, as the media mingled with 13 renowned Chefs and 2 Sommeliers, as we sampled a delicious preview of what was to come. We had the pleasure of waltzing thru Sherman Library & Gardens and enjoy Pascal Olhats’ Café Jardin as the perfect backdrop to this evening of deliciousness.  The outdoor patio was transformed for the evening to showcase so many of the signature dishes by our favorite Chefs.  From yellow tail Hamachi, to uni and farro salad, braised oxtail to Tandoori garlic shrimp we were all in heaven with the tasting creations. Not to mention the incredible desserts!

A lovely selection of wines had been pre “hand-selected” for our tasting pleasure. Jorn (Joey) Kleinhans of Wine Elite and Master Sommelier Michael Jordan guided  our pairings all evening long. From Silverado Sauvignon Blanc from Napa, to Gloria Ferrer Sparkling Wine, and a light La Crema Pinot Gris from Monterey the selection was perfect. Reds included a Bear Point Cab and Silverado Merlot which were both excellent.

Here is a lovely video prepared by Patty Mitchell, Culinary Promotions, who handles PR for Peter Dills and other restaurant clients. This will give you a glimpse into the delicious cuisine, and the fun Chef personalities we have in store for us. Enjoy! The video is three minutes long and worth a look-see: link: http://youtu.be/jr3rsTYCmC0  .
