Vew from patioWith panoramic views of the Marina launch area and the calm Back Bay preserve, this restaurant offers waterfront views, and a retractable roof for the quintessential indoor & outdoor Newport Beach dining experience. The menu features a wide variety of fresh local seafood and Prime steaks. The Bistro is famous for Family Brunch on Saturdays and the Champagne Brunch on Sundays, which earned the “Diners Choice Award” by Open Table for “Top 10 Brunch Location in Orange County.” The outdoor wrap-around waterfront patio is dog-friendly so Fido can enjoy it here as well!

French born Executive Chef Bruno Massuger has developed an inspirational farm to table Spring menu, featuring California cuisine with a nod to Napa influences. “Harkening back to my French roots, I prefer to source locally as we do in France. So I work with local farmers and purchasing seasonal products. I am proud to say that most of the vendors we work with are within 150 miles of the restaurant.”  

I had the pleasure of recently being invited to a Media Tasting as Chef unveiled some of his newest menu offerings. We enjoyed a sampling by ordering various items and here are some examples of what is new for lunch…

Appetizers we enjoyed included:

Sage Ravioli Marzano ($12) – In a light Marinara sauce with Italian Sausage and adorned with fried sage. This was delicious.

Yellow Fin Ahi Sashimi ($12)- Perfectly sliced accompanied with: Seaweed Salad, Wasabi and Pickled Ginger.

French Onion Soup ($10) with crusted Swiss cheese

For Main Lunch Entrees we enjoyed:

Parisian Chicken Sandwich ($14) – Grilled chicken breast, heirloom tomato, arugula, bacon, brie cheese and Ranch Aioli on a Brioche Bun. And yes, Chef is now using Dean Kim’s custom breads from OC Baking Company which makes all the difference. Excellent and share-able too. This was my favorite and the brie and chicken worked so well together. Dean Kim’s bread is so flavorful I think that is a fabulous addition!

Calamari Salad ($16) – Mesclun Greens, tomatoes, olives, bell peppers with Cured Calamari Steak (sliced), Pickled Onions and Capers.

Bistro Steak Salad With Fried Onions ($18) – Pan seared steak, romaine lettuce, feta cheese, Dijon mustard, infused Olive Oil dressing.

Santa Fe Turkey Sandwich with Ortega Chiles ($14) – Grilled fresh Turkey, Jack Cheese and fire roasted Ortega Chiles.

IMG_6064For Desserts, lots to choose from, however my favorite was the Bread Pudding and I don’t even eat bread pudding. But it was house made and delicious!

Dock-Side Duffy Electric Boat Rentals: And for those who love to be on the water, how about boating on the Bay? Couples can enjoy a two hour Duffy Electric Boat Rental Romance Package at sunset—- right from the docks of the Back Bay Bistro. With a pre-selected gourmet platter and wines at a great value, guests can plan a perfect excursion on the water. Following this, guests will return to the restaurant for a lovely dinner.
